The greenhouse represents a major investment in climate-smart agriculture and forms part of the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ broader efforts to strengthen agricultural resilience following the 2021 eruption of La Soufrière volcano. Implemented through VEEP under the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Information Technology, the initiative seeks to support sustainable food production and improve the country’s capacity to adapt to changing environmental conditions.
Constructed and installed by NGS Greenhouses in collaboration with IsraTech, the facility is equipped with modern agricultural technology designed to optimise crop production throughout the year. Features include automated climate control systems, cooling and circulation fans, rainwater harvesting capabilities, irrigation systems, and solar-powered energy support. The greenhouse is expected to support research, crop propagation, and the introduction of innovative farming techniques to benefit the local agricultural sector.
Speaking during the ceremony, officials highlighted the importance of investing in resilient infrastructure capable of supporting food security and long-term national development. The facility, valued at more than EC$1 million, reflects VEEP’s continued commitment to rebuilding stronger systems and supporting recovery initiatives in sectors impacted by the volcanic eruptions.
The handover also underscores the collaborative partnership between the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Transformation in advancing sustainable development initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening resilience across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
